What does TWR stand for?

Two-Way Ranging – A method of wirelessly measuring the distance between two devices by measuring the time it takes signals to travel between the two devices using the speed of light.

How many training devices can be used at one time?

The SIM-Teq system can support 16 training devices (e.g., TelePoleTD) and 10 sources (e.g., TWR Source) at one time, per Kit. Multiple Kits can be used together to expand the number of devices used at one time. When used manual control only mode a maximum of thirty-two devices may be controlled using Simulation Control Center.

What makes your training instruments realistic?

Whenever possible, we use components sourced directly from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for our training devices. If OEM parts are unavailable or unsuitable for any reason we attempt to replicate the look and feel as closely as possible.

Does your system work with Apple iPad or iPhone?

Unfortunately, currently the SIM-Teq system only works on Microsoft Windows 10 Tablets or PCs.

How far away will a SIM-Teq TWR equipped instrument respond from a TWR Source?

Approximately one hundred feet (30 meters) during normal use in a line of sight condition. Communication range should always be tested before using the system in an environment for the first time to be sure that the environment does not negatively impact system performance.

Can a TWR Source be shielded?

The TWR Source uses RF communication that can be shielded by metal. The communication signal is digital meaning it cannot be degraded, only slowed down, by causing it to bounce from surface to surface, or blocked completely. The more the signal is slowed, the more effect it will have on instrument response. We recommend testing with any shielding materials before using in any real training. Each instance is unique to the training environment.

What will the TWR Source signal penetrate?

The TWR Source uses RF communication that can penetrate common materials such as; wood, glass, plastic, sheetrock, and fabric.

Will the TWR Source work under water?

No. Water absorbs too much RF energy for device communication to be effective.

Is there a cost for any firmware or software updates?

No. Firmware versions that include feature updates and bug fixes are free. The latest versions of firmware can be found here. All feature updates and bug fixes made to Simulation Control Center are available for immediate download for free from the Windows Store as soon as approved by Microsoft.

Is there a Maintenance or Service contract required?

No. Feature updates and bug fixes are available to all end users at no additional cost.

If I purchased a SIM-Teq system and a new instrument is released later, do I need to purchase a whole new system?

No. Additional instruments are easily added to existing kits. However, there may be firmware or software updates required for your system to interact with new devices. These updates are always provided at no additional cost.

Do any of the instruments work with OEM accessories?

Yes, the DMC 2000TD works with any OEM accessory that utilizes the ISO Connector (e.g., iPAM-Tx, PAM-2, iMUX). The DMC 3000TD works with the Telemetry Module. The TelePoleTD works with the WRM2 attachments.

My company uses a specific instrument not currently supported in the SIM-Teq product line, can new instruments be added?

SIM-Teq can support almost any instrument on the market. However, each new instrument takes time to design and manufacture. If you would like us to look at a specific instrument or type of instrument, please contact your local distributor for more information.

Why does Simulation Control Center crash or behave unpredictably?

Issues with SCC are usually caused by using the incorrect dongle driver or due to a Windows issue. To ensure that the correct driver is being used for the communication dongle, please see this video. Unfortunately, other issues may arise if Windows 10 has a corrupt or missing DLL file. To verify that this is indeed the cause of SCC crashing follow these steps:

• Verify that the correct dongle driver is installed as shown here.
• Look at Windows Event Viewer >Windows Logs> Application to determine what is causing SCC to crash. If the Faulting module path entry lists C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\combase.dll is the identified issue proceed to the next step. If this is not the case, please contact us.
• There are two possible fixes for this error.
  • If the PC/Tablet is not running the latest version of Windows 10 updating to the latest version will replace the missing/corrupt DLL.
  • If the PC/Tablet is already running the latest version, the only solution is to reset the Windows 10 installation through Windows 10 built-in recovery options.
